Here are some of the projects now underway thanks to Microgrants!
1. Lulu gets a sister! Street library with artwork, Gildercliffe St
Visitors to the iconic mural of Lulu on her bike, on the corner of Gildercliffe Street and Pingrup Lane, will soon see get the chance to see ‘little Lulu’ and benefit from a Street Library. Local resident Annie and her husband installed the mural in 2016 to prevent graffiti and to activate and beautify an otherwise big, blank wall alongside Pizzaca Cafe’s carpark. Annie is the first recipient of a Bend microgrant, and will install a Street Library featuring accompanying artwork by Lulu’s creator, David Smith.
Congratulations Annie! And thanks from all of us at The Bend for your great community spirit.
2: A great neighbour!
Rikki and young Flynn of Northstead St have worked out where to put a new street library. It will be attached to the fence right outside of their house.
Rikki hopes the library will be used by the local kids and parents that often gather to play and talk on the front verge under the shady street tree. Rikki encourages people to stay by placing chairs under the tree and opening the front gate when it’s time for the kids to play . Rikki reports that two ladies also use the chairs for a brief stop on their regular walk.
